Who is it for?
This course is designed for designed to meet the criteria set by the Department for Education’s EYFS Framework and is ideal for:
• Those who have gained a level 2 and/or level 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements.
• Registered childminders and assistants who are required to hold a current and full paediatric first aid certificate in order to comply with the EYFS requirements.
• Anyone who has a non-professional involvement with infants and children, such as parents and grandparents who want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.
How long does it take?
This is a two day course
How will I be assessed?
You will have seven practical assessments and two multiple choice papers

What will I be taught?
In this course you will learn
⁃ Roles and responsibility’s of a first aider
⁃ Scene survey, primary survey and secondary survey for infants and children
⁃ The differences between infants and children
⁃ How to collect a patient history
⁃ How to preform CPR on infants and children
⁃ Use of the recovery position
⁃ Safe use of an AED
⁃ How to manage an infant or child who is choking
⁃ How to manage infant or child who is seizing
⁃ How to assess and manage an infant or child who is bleeding
⁃ How to recognise and manage an infant or child who is in shock
⁃ How to manage an infant or child who has a minor injury including bites, stings, cuts, grazes, bumps and bruises, splinters and nosebleeds
⁃ How to recognise and manage infants or children who have suspected sprains, strains, dislocations or fractures
⁃ How to recognise and manage infants or children who have suspected head injuries or spinal injuries
⁃ How to administer first aid for an infant or child with a foreign body in the eye, ear or nose
⁃ Recognise and manage an infant or child who is suffering from major medical conditions including diabetic hypoglycaemic emergency, asthma attack, allergic reaction, meningitis, febrile convulsions
⁃ Recognise and manage when an infant or child is suffering from extreme heat or extreme cold
⁃ Administer first aid to an infant or child who has suffered an electric shock
⁃ How to assess and apply first aid to a child or infant who has been burned
⁃ Recognise and manage an infant or child who is having an anaphylactic reaction including the use of an auto injector
⁃ Recognise and manage an infant or child who has ingested a poisonous substance
What qualification will I receive?
Successful learners will receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
